Miscellaneous Things

During various emails or board discussions things have come up and this page features the various rules or conditions that have been added to the Fate Game.

Limit breaks: start basic. you will get a set of seven, so think about what you want.
You can use your limit break when it's dramatically appropriate. Points will be lost
for abuse of limit break powers.

OCRs: to get points for an OCR at least two other people must catch the OCR and recognize it. People who abuse the OCR privilage will be penalized. The maximum amount of pts anyone can get for OCRs in a single part (no matter what its length) is 100.

In jokes: Fine and dandy, but don't rely only on them for the humor in your part.

Hentai/perverse/suggestive scenes: We are all rather mature (lol!) people here. If you wish to have mature subject matter in your part, you are welcome to. BUT you must have a disclaimer stating you've wandered into that "offensive(?)" subject matter. I, personally, don't have problems with you "exploring" those areas, nor do I have issues with violence and obscene language. Just remember not everyone necessarily feels the same way. Disclaimers easy to make (and can be very entertaining to read if done corretly).

General rules of thumb:

1. We're here to have fun, but we're also here to make at attempt at quality. S-I has a terrible tendancy to become incomprenhisable to anyone not involved in it. Try to have as balanced a part as possible between fun and quality. (Aw, dont look at me like I'm the Lord of Nightmares...)

2. The Improparty clauses: If there is anything you severely do NOT want to happen to your avatars, tell us. Try not to ignore people because you're worried about getting them OOC.

3. Plot holes. Watch out for them.

4. Dangling threads. Try not to forget to continue things introduced, but don't drag something out longer than it needs to be.

5. Plot advancement speed. This is the trickiest part of any story. Don't move too fast, if you can help it.

The Guest writer: A writer who would like to write for Fate Gate but does not wish to have a S-I character involved. The Guest writer is welcomed to sign up anytime the queue is open. Guest writers will not personally receive points for their parts. They may decided to give the points they would have earned to the character(s) of their choice.

Guest Artists: If you are not a player of Fate Game and wish to contribute fan art, please do. If you would like to stock points to work towards entering the Fate Game, or would like to donate your points to a player, feel free to do so.

Fan art: points assigned for drawing fan art. Has to include more than just your character. An artist will only receive points for up to the three pictures of the same
character. When a Fate Game player has reached their limit of point-earning fan art they are still welcome to contribute.

Freebie art: When a Fate Game player has done a piece of fan art or character art for someone and does not ask for the points. (An example would be the character art LC does for the profiles.)

Commissioning art: A deal worked out between writers to have art done for a specific amount of points as a reward to the artist for their time. Not all artists ask for this. Also, if you've commissioned a guest artist to do a picture for you, you will receive the points for that art.

Character limits: Right now each Fate Game player is allowed up to three characters. Profiles for additional characters can go up at any time, but the characters cannot become mainstream players in the story until the 20 points are paid. If you have an additional character created, you can hint at or mention them in your part to let people know they're coming. You can even feature a short scene with them in it, but you cannot bring them fully into the plot.

What classifies as your character? A character that was created by you personally, or a pre-existing character (who does not have a person attached to them) that you have brought in. For example: If I was to bring in Hellmaster Phibrizzo (why, don't ask me) he would count as my character. If I was to give points to a friend of mine to come in and they were using a character named "Hellmaster Phibrizzo" as their avatar, then it would be their character.

Adding Characters:
(Concerning the use of Impro and other fanfic Characters) If you are using a character that pre-existed in a game/anime/manga/comic/tv show/whatever before hand, it counts as a pre-existing fictional character and costs 35 points to add. If you are using a character that was created for fanfiction by yourself or another person (with their permission asked first, please!) then it counts as an original character and costs 20 points to add. Also, if using a character with a preset past, please mention it in the profile and/or link a the site/page/whatever that we can go to so we can check to make sure the character is being written IC.

Summons: Creating a summons of a pre-existing character does not count as bringing in another avatar. How do pre-existing character summons work? Well, first you give them the basic attack, and design a couple others they can learn as time goes by. I create a summons called "Lina Inverse". Her first spell is Fireball, then with more experience she learns Dragon Slave and then finally Giga Slave. Keep in mind, once creating a summons...that character no longer counts as a reference. Everytime I summoned Lina Inverse would not give me 3 points for making reference to the Slayers.

Restrictions on summons: Just that you can't duplicate a summon materia that already exists in the game ("Gee, it'd be cool if we had two Knights of the Round summons!"), or that someone has already made ("Gee, that Lina Inverse summon is cool, I think I'll get one of those.").

Can I make a summons of a person? i.e. the Epilson summon? Yes, you may, but it would be polite to ask the person first.

Whining: Okay, you've got something you want to bitch about? Keep it out of the "story text". It's find to have #445 whine about pet peeves in the sub-story (about him writing Fate Game), but try to keep it humourous as possible.
Be careful not to turn it into a flame or slander fest against someone/thing. Rant and vents have their place but that's not what this is about.
