Background story:
Indigo's grew up
in the slums of Midgar, where her parents own a small store in Sector 6. The
middle child in a family of nine, there was often not enough food to go around,
and certainly not enough inheritance. Swearing never again to be poor, she made
her way to Upper Midgar at the age of fourteen, where she applied for a
secretarial position with ShinRa. Fortunately (or perhaps, unfortunately), all
applications to ShinRa Corp. must be accompanied by a complete physical and
psychological evaluation. These tests revealed that Indigo fit the profile of an
ideal candidate for the SOLDIER program, thus landing her a better paying job
with medical (courtesy of Hojo and company).
Now a SOLDIER, 1st class, Indigo serves ShinRa with unquestioning loyalty. As she is both the only female member of SOLDIER and its shortest member, she tends to act overly defensively (read: bitchy) when someone brings up her height or gender. It's also not a good idea to mention her figure (or lack thereof). She has a caustic wit and an excellent grasp of psychology, and has been known to reduce people to quivering wrecks with a few well-timed insults.
After being ignored for her taller, better endowed sisters, she has no idea how to act around those of the opposite sex, and tends to develop unrequited crushes on totally inappropriate (but handsome) men, either taken, uninterested, or completely psychotic. These crushes can last anywhere from a few hours to weeks before she switches to someone new.
She's very pretty, but not spectacular, with long blue-black hair she keeps braided and pale violet eyes that glow from her mako infusion. She has a rather less than voluptuous figure, although she is not (quite) flat-chested.
Indigo recently received a concussion in a training accident. Since awakening, she has been more "difficult" than usual. She also seems somewhat distracted, like she's forgotten something vitally important...

Bonus points to anyone who knows where the last name comes from (it's pronounced So-ah)! Well, I'm also short, female, not well endowed, and prone to fruitless crushes, but that's where the similarity ends. I come from a small family, I've never held a sword in my life, I've never been desperately poor, and I've never been experimented on by demented doctors (well, maybe once or twice, but that's classified).
The name
and color scheme ('cool' colors) deliberately complements her fiery personality.
May 1st is May Day, a festival of similar contrasts: it is the
beginning of summer, a celebration of life and fertility, but it is also the
anniversary of many mythical battles and disasters. This date would make Indigo
a Taurus (like me!) which has been described as reliable, loving, persistent,
determined, possessive, jealous, resentful, inflexible, and self-indulgent. Also
as having a quick temper and tempestuous nature. Not very flattering, is it? Am
I really this way? Well... I plead the fifth...
